Modified Bitumen Roofing
Built-Up roof membranes like Modified Bitumen are generally of alternating layers of bitumen (asphalt) and reinforcing fabrics, usually felt, that create a finished roof membrane.
Benefits
Modified bitumen roof systems have been utilized for over 100 years, and continue to be a common roofing style today. These roofs are constructed with layers of felt and bitumen that provide a redundancy of durable protection. They are then covered with gravel, a mineral sheet cap or other weather resistant coatings. Additionally, both modified bitumen roofs can be installed using an array of coatings and colors.
Installation
Installing a modified bitumen roof starts with heavy-duty felt. As it progresses, rolls of bitumen are heated with a torch, and melted into the felt. This process can be repeated as needed, building up a durable and long-lasting roof.
